Jayadeva Ranade: Jayadeva Ranade, a former Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, has closely watched developments concerning China and East Asia for almost 25 years and was involved in formulation of policy at highest levels in Government.
His assignments have included Hong Kong and Beijing. After earning a Diploma of Advanced Proficiency in Chinese from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi he completed an Intensive Introductory and Advanced Diploma Course in Mandarin from the University of Hong Kong.
He was conferred both the highest awards of the Organisation out of turn. Mr Ranade frequently contributes articles relating to China and East Asia to mainstream national newspapers and magazines. He is invited to speak at national and international conferences and requested by national Television channels for expert comments on issues relating to China, Pakistan and security.
He is presently a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), New Delhi and a Member of the Core Group on China of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
A subject usually less focused upon though of vital strategic importance to India, namely China strategy regarding Tibetan Buddhists and the Dalai Lama, is scrutinized in the book concluding section. This includes the developmental activity in Tibet and plans to divert the waters of the Brahmaputra, both of which have a serious potential to impact on India.
